Disastrous Internet Identity — What You Say CAN Hurt You! Disastrous Internet Identity — What You Say CAN Hurt You!(0)

RepairYourOwnLegendNow.com “Glass, china, and reputation are easily cracked, and never well mended.” Benjamin Franklin Ever heard of a DISASTROUS INTERNET IDENTITY, or DII? It seems that Benjamin Franklin knew all about it before it even existed! A DII — It’s what you get after a lifetime of tweeting and blogging and posting anything that popped into your little head. Oh, sure it’s a lot of fun when you’re doing it. But one day your parents are gonna want you to get a job and move out of their basement. You might have a problem when potential employers start to read all your pithy posts. Come on, admit it. There are a few choice comments floating around cyberspace with your name on them. What You Say CAN Hurt You! Remember when you were bragging about being a level-70 warrior elf in World of Warcraft? Or that time you lit up the boards over at TeamEdward.com? Wish you’d never pledged your undying loyalty to that college buddy who’s now under indictment for fraud? Sure, it’s how you really felt at the time, but what will someone think who’s reading it in hopes of hiring you? Think Before You Leap Headstrong Over The DII Cliff At best, they’ll see you tweet before you think. Never a good quality in an employee. At the worst, you’ll be convicted of guilt by association. Since your friend is a fraud, they’ll think you’re one, too. Either way, you probably won’t get the job. So what can you do right now to clean up your online presence? Here’s How You Clean Up… click the

Charlene Yi, founder of the Altimeter Group, states that “Companies who do not get on the social media bandwagon soon will not survive.” Now that’s scary. Must say we’ve been telling you that! The Social Network Movie Told Us Do you remember the line from Social Network? It was Justin Timberlake’s character, Sean Parker (the first president of Facebook) who said, “We lived on farms, then we lived in cities, and now we’re gonna live on the Internet.” We’ve been saying the same thing for years. As an example, I kept saying that we will never die, we’ll just live on in Facebook and our blogs. It’s true. A friend died a year ago (from when this is being written) and his Facebook page is still alive with marketing tips and comments from friends. If You Aren’t Online, What Then? Imagine your business as road kill. The empty office. Ex-employees looking at you with watery, puppy eyes, silently asking why: Why didn’t you create an online presence like all your competitors? PeoplePond Lets Users Access Their Personal Online Identity Profiles Using Their Facebook, Google, OpenID and Yahoo! Accounts

Ferndale, WA (PRWEB) August 18, 2009

PeoplePond, a unique Internet service providing increased personal brand visibility, reputation management and identity verification services, announced today that PeoplePond users now have the option to login using their existing Facebook, Google, OpenID or Yahoo! accounts thus eliminating the need to track and remember a PeoplePond-specific ID and password.

“PeoplePond users typically have a number of social media accounts so it makes sense to leverage them to make it easier to securely access their personal profiles,” said PeoplePond president, Theron McCollough.

The PeoplePond service empowers people with personal brands to achieve greater visibility in online search results by training search engines, like Google and Bing, to give higher ranking to the online locations where they publish content. Each PeoplePond profile is designed to provide the owner full control to implement a search engine optimization strategy that boosts visibility for their entire online identity.

Additionally, the PeoplePond Identity Verification service enables confirming to profile visitors that the profile owner has proven they are who they say they are. This takes the teeth out of online identity thieves by providing a bona fide point of reference for online identity.

PeoplePond recently launched a sister site, CompanyPond, for boosting the online visibility for company brands by leveraging the numerous PeoplePond profiles a company has. This trains search engines to promote online content produced by staff, evangelists, board members, etc. in their search results.

Reputation is most important in anyone’s life. People generally do not bother or do not know about Internet Reputation Management and when they realize that someone has defamed them by posting an obscene video on Youtube or by publishing an article on the internet, it is too late and nothing could be done to take them out from net. It can be costly and difficult to investigate & take legal measures against the offender. If you know who the offender is, probably you could save your online reputation but not before the press adding spice to the news and creating a controversy. The whole world comes to know why you are defending yourself.

Is there a way to handle Online Reputation Management? It would be really convenient if one could have a Personal PR specialized in Online Reputation Management taking care of your reputation on line. It would give you a sense of security and peace of mind by having a 24/7 watch dog looking out for any malicious postings on line safeguarding your online reputation. Children & teens are the most common targets on line. Their ignorance and impulse make them fall victim to cyber criminals. They are black mailed, abused and bullied. One small mistake in their teens could ruin their reputation for the life.

Another burning problem is the identity theft. It is increasing day by day. One should take adequate precautions to protect the privacy & prevent the identity theft.

These cyber crimes can be prevented by taking control of your online reputation by your own search engine results. An Online Reputation Management interface can be used to look for information about you online. This will allow you to regulate the information you want to make public. There is one product I know that allows you to remove your personal information from people databases spread all over the Internet. The adverse postings or information can be destroyed from the internet quietly. This is the Web’s first online reputation management solution and enables you to review everything that is available about you online. An expert team will work tirelessly to remove or destroy any information you want on both the open internet and the “invisible Web” at a minimal fee of .95 per destroy.

Cranberry Network Announces New Online Identity and Visibility Platform, PeoplePond

Ferndale, WA (PRWEB) March 4, 2009

The social media boom has created unique opportunities for people to build online identities driving personal and business brands. PeoplePond, a new service at the intersection of social media and SEO, provides a revolutionary platform giving people full control to create and manage exceptional personal brands.

PeoplePond enables people to quickly and easily create an online profile complete with an ‘About Me’ biography and links to their published content. Using this profile, they can create a verified identity and authenticate their ownership of material on social media sites and elsewhere. PeoplePond’s ‘About Me’ biographies are portable and accessible through third party social media and content platforms through its open ADAM API.

The development team includes many of the same people who spent a decade developing the first search engine optimized (SEO) press release platform that revolutionized its industry. They have now applied this knowledge and experience to create an SEO platform exclusively for people and personal brands. As a result, PeoplePond profiles will rank well in the search engines and their associated social media content will receive an organic lift as well.

“Our goal is to do for people what we did for the press release. We are elevating personal brands through a powerful SEO platform. PeoplePond will create brand advocates from employees, partners, stakeholders and evangelists,” said David McInnis, the innovative mind who conceptualized PeoplePond. PeoplePond, which will launch at South by Southwest 2009 (SXSW), is currently in controlled beta. Invitation codes are being released to followers of @peoplepond on Twitter, the social media site.

In addition to providing an SEO boost and identity verification, PeoplePond also combines the portable address book functionality of WeaveMet.com with the social media content tracking of DandyID.com, creating the first online service to harmonize these distinct capabilities into a single platform.

Reputation management is critical to your business. Just like you shred paperwork so people can’t steal your personal information, don’t leave a “virtual” path behind when it comes to your identity.

Reputation management is the process of tracking an entity’s actions and tracking the opinions about those particular actions. Although the Internet is a great marketing tool for businesses, it’s also known for spreading rumors and scandal.

Someone “posing” as you could ruin your reputation VERY quickly. That’s why it’s important to stay on top of what people are saying about you online AND if people are claiming to be YOU!

Unfortunately, cyber crimes are on the rise. Not only could your reputation be tarnished but even worse, your company could be fiscally ruined. However, you can take pro-active steps to make sure identity theft doesn’t happen to you and your company.

How To Stop Identity Theft Before It Happens
? Register web site domains with your name and your company name (i.e. www.johnsmith.com and www.johnsmithcompany.com – make sure to also register .org, .biz, and .net domains)

? Register company accounts (using both your name and company name) on social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Plaxo, Ryze, MySpace, etc. Even if you never use these accounts, you take your name/company name off the market so thieves can’t swipe your identity.

? Create Google and Yahoo profiles under your name/company. By creating “official” profiles on search engines, it also makes it easier for your clients/customers to find you. Make sure to include your picture. If a fake account is set up by someone else, your clients/customers will know you’re the real deal when they search for you and find your picture!

? Google yourself! Check out search engines to see what people are saying about your or if people are claiming to be you. This is a great way to find out if cyber bandits are stealing your content and posting them on their sites without your permission!

? Protect yourself from cyber hackers. This sounds simple but sometimes people don’t secure their personal/company information on the Internet. It’s very easy for hackers to swipe information (credit card and Social Security numbers, etc) and pose as a representative from your company.

? Respond quickly to negative comments/attacks on blogs and discussion forums. If a disgruntled customer is posing as you (it could happen!) and blasting out nasty messages to make you look bad, respond immediately but remain professional (don’t attack or instigate the perpetrator). That’s WHY it’s really important to monitor your online reputation on a regular basis!

? Create a strong, positive online presence by participating in online discussion forums, social networking sites, blogs, review sites and by submitting articles. If you already have a good reputation built online and an impostor comes along, your established online reputation will speak volumes.

The Best Tools to Use for Online Reputation Management
The following web sites can help you stay on top of your reputation and protect your identity:

                  ? BoardReader

                  ? Big-Boards

                  ? Board Tracker

                  ? Yahoo Message Boards

                  ? claimID

                  ? Garlik

                  ? FindMeOn

                  ? Rapleaf

                  ? Keotag

The company issued statements Friday (1/23) in an effort at damage control in which the CEO compares the potential industry-wide impact of the breach to none other than that of the Tylenol poisonings of some twenty-five years ago that nearly brought down the drug maker.
