Reactions to the all-new 2012 VW Jetta GLI

Last Thursday, Volkswagen invited fans from VWVortex and Facebook to the Chicago Auto Show Press Days for a prior-to-the-public, sneak peak of the new 2012 VW Jetta GLI. Finally there is empirical proof that moms/teachers/bosses who tell you to stop spending so much time with social media are just dead wrong. These bloggers, car freaks, and super-fans stepped out from behind the computer screen and in front of the camera. And here, in their own words (with a little encouragement from Danielle Gumro) is what they had to say about the 2012 Jetta GLI, its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, red brake calipers and rockin’ Fender Premium Sound System.

Ppl who say no aujustable armrest, trunk arms instead of hinges, and no HID….do you hear yourselves? I never heard so much? bitching for the most insignificant things. Looks about 900x better than the the previous gli or the current gti. They got rid of the plaid too to boot! So happy it became a grown up pocket rocket and not something that should be owned by plaid wear hipster high schoolers.

No adjustable armrest is a deal-breaker for me. Been driving VW’s for last 10 years and have gotten way to used to it, especially driving a standard. Really disappointing cuts… All those little features that made the Jetta special were cut out of it. Audi is going in the same direction. Drive a S4 with 6spd from 2008, got in a new 2011… just felt boring and didn’t have the same roar the V8 did. currently looking for? a new car… I wont get a VW because of the cuts… lost a 10 year cust

Sharp and a great value, compared to the BMW 328i -? more torque, 10k less, similar styling (and to the A4), and comparable reliability.
